This includes writing for multiple genres.
Loosen up... Let your hair down... Experiment... Have fun!
For me this meant writing in the erotica genre.
This is actually the first time I'm "announcing" that I've written that type of thing. Until now, only five people knew.
It's not that I was ashamed, but some people look differently on that genre.
I say, there's nothing wrong with it... or any genre, if you feel compelled to write in it.
To date, I've actually sold more copies of my erotica short stories than my traditional, general fiction novels.
The market is there.
If you're a writer looking to make more money than you're currently making, consider other genres.
If you're ethically opposed, that's fine. It's not for everyone.
But if you're open, give it a shot!
Self-publishing is incredibly easy. And I've found erotica quicker and easier to write.
I would churn out two or three erotica short stories in one day. Then I put them together in a collection, and sold them digitally.
To date, I have 5 (I think) erotica short story collections published.
I will say this: I advise you to publish widely different genres (especially erotica) under pen names. You'll have different audiences (likely) for different genres, and I don't want to confuse my readers with the type of writing I do.
But writing is writing.
Sure, some people look down upon certain types of writing and certain genres. Don't worry about them.
As they say, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." Writing in different genres is just putting your eggs in different baskets.
Give it a shot.
You may find that you have a knack for a certain genre or type of writing that you never would have found out had you not tried it. (And with pen names, no one has to know... no one knew I wrote erotica for 2 years!)
And remember, you can always switch genres, or stop writing a certain style, any time you like!
